THE POP EXPOSE – ‘Untamed Heart’!

Story by Mitchell Smith

Hello everyone, today I’m taking a look at a 1993 movie gem that may have been lost in the laundry, Untamed Heart. “Untamed Heart”, is a romantic drama starring Christian Slater, Rosie Perez, and Marisa Tomei. I never considered this a Christmas movie but it does take place at Christmas time in Minnesota. Tomei plays Carolin, a waitress at the local diner. She has a knack for attracting dead beat boyfriends. Tomei who grew up in Brooklyn and went to Boston University does a great Minnesota accent.

This movie was one I watched as a teen and developed a crush for Tomei. If you have seen this movie you know why. Perez who also grew up in Brooklyn was already one of my favorite actresses of the time mostly because of her roll in “White Men Can’t Jump” another great nineties film. Perez just used her natural voice which would lead one to think her character Cindy was not a native to Minnesota in this movie. Christian Slater plays the very shy bus boy who was never adopted from the orphanage do to his heart disease condition. He does a great job as a lot of the movie his character Adam does not say much, all of his acting is done with his eyes and body motion.

Overall this is a great movie with a cool soundtrack. It was the first time I heard Suzanne Vega’s song “Tom’s Diner, which is still catchy today. If you have never watched this one make we sure to check it out. Have an awesome week everyone. Is this one of your favorite movies?
